April 2024
You are very welcome back to Year 6 class page. I hope you all had a great Easter, even though the weather wasn't so good.
Year 6 have been busy finishing their 'Flight/ Transport' topic. Photos can be seen below including a trip to 'The Ulster Aviation Society' on 17th April. This turned out to be a very interesting trip. The last time I took a class there was pre- covid and I couldn't believe how many more exhibits have been added. Thank-you to the guides, especially Ron, who took the boys' group and myself around. Well worth a trip with the whole family.

We had a visit from the volunteers in Ballykeel Baptist Church and 'The Amazing Journey'. The children were taken through stories from the old and new testaments with pictures and drama. They also got to dress up and sample some 'Biblical Food'.

March 2024
Our school play 'Yeha' took up a lot of time this month and the children were an absolute delight to work with- whatever was asked of them they did to the best of their ability. We had our dress rehearsal for the rest of the school on 19th March and then shows for parents, relations and friends were on 20th and 21st March. I was absolutely delighted with the outcome of all our hard work.
I was so proud of each and every one of them and the main thing was we had great fun!
The photos show us relaxing in the classroom before shows....

Another very busy month for Year 6. On Thursday 7th March we had 'World Book Day'- no dressing up this year but reading to Year 2 was most enjoyable.📚
February 2024
February has been a busy month for Year 6. They had a popcorn and movie day on Friday 2nd February, thanks to the 'PTA'. Internet Safety Day was February 6th and they learnt about the positives and negatives of 'AI'. On Friday 9th February they had a lovely online art lesson with Sinéad McDermott for 'Children's Mental Health Week.' They have also been very busy rehearsing for their upcoming show- 'Yeha!' which will take place on 20th and 21st of March. On 20th February Year 6 had a taster session for Taekwondo- this proved to be very strenuous! Lessons can be accessed in our school on a Monday night.
January 2024
Wednesday 24th January - Dairy Council Visit.
Year 6 had been working very hard during the week beginning 22nd January on their mid-year tests. It was great that Aaron from the Dairy Council came to see Year 5 and 6 to tell them all about the benefits of a balanced diet and exercise. There was a welcome 'movement break' for all involved!
Wednesday 10th January
Year 6 visited the Ulster Museum for an 'Ancient Egyptian' lecture. Sharon our lecturer was very impressed with the knowledge the children displayed when answering her questions. She was also delighted with the curiosity Year 6 had for the Egyptian topic. I was so proud of my class- they were fantastic!
The children enjoyed handling the artefacts and were so careful when passing them around. They worked well together in their groups to discover which jobs they would be doing in Egypt, from embalmers to jewellery makers.
The time they spent in the Egyptian room was also very interesting. The children were very impressed with Takabuti (the mummy) and understood how the mummification process was actually an amazing feat completed by ancient Egyptians.
Year 6 had a chance to explore other rooms in the museum and we all agreed we needed more time because it was so interesting. They did get a chance to go to the shop before getting on the bus for the return journey. It had been an excellent, educational trip with the majority of the children wanting to return to the museum in their own time.

Festive Fridays 2023🎄
Friday 1st, 8th, 15th December
The first 'Festive Friday' was called Sportsmas. The children engaged in sports activities with a naughty elf and festive snowman as well as completing games such as the chopstick challenge, target practice and trying to get the cube nearest to the tub of sweets. Great fun was had by all!
The second 'Festive Friday' was the 'elf room' and because all presents are meant to be a surprise for mum or dad; I won't be posting any photos!
On the last 'Festive Friday' the children were able to have photos taken with their friends. They then visited a campfire at the back of the school where they sang Christmas songs and toasted marshmallows. Again a great time was had by all!
November 2023
Wednesday 22nd November
Year 6 and 7 had a great time at 'The Ballymac Hotel' celebrating Ulster Scot's Language week. Our children joined children from Meadowbridge Primary school to learn some Ulster Scot's words and songs. The children participated fully and really enjoyed themselves. Harrison from Year 7 accompanied a piper on his chanter with a fabulous rendition of 'Abide With Me'- we were so proud!
The children received many freebies from Lisburn City Council who were sponsoring the event. They also loved travelling to and from the venue in a huge 'Richmond Coach'.

Wednesday 15th November
Year 6, attended a 'Business Masterclass' in the Island Centre, Lisburn. The children had a great time, building towers from spaghetti and developing a business idea which would work in a pretend country with a specific population, currency, mode of transport, economy and laws.
The children also listened to Brian Sofley who is Managing Director of ASSA ABLOY Opening Solution UK and Ireland Door Group. He told the children about all the jobs he had before eventually developing his own business. The company exports doors worldwide and has a £54.3 billion turnover. He took questions from the children and Lucas from our school asked how much he earned on a daily basis? He replied he earned enough! Lucas did want a figure- but he didn't get it, unfortunately.
All in all the children had a very productive morning developing their entrepreneurial skills

Tuesday 7th November
This was as busy day what with 'Toasty Tuesday'. school photos and Year 6 had a visit from Nurse Julie Kinkiad in connection with their 'Human Body' Topic.
Thanks to Eurospar Dromara for donating bread, butter and jam.
Julie talked about her job and taught the children how to do CPR. The children found it hard work performing CPR on the dummy and they understand how difficult it would be on a real human being. Thanks so much to Julie for giving up her time on a precious day off.
October 2023

Lots of reading in 'Book Week'. Year 6 read to Year 2- just love the wee faces!
Thursday 12th October
Many congratulations to these four pupils, who took part in the annual 'Meadowbridge General Knowledge Quiz'. Great fun was had by all!
Tuesday 3rd October
Year 6 visited the Lisburn Linen Museum to see an 'Egyptian' exhibition. Our guide Angus took us around the exhibition first. The children were very interested to hear about 'The Rosetta Stone' and all the languages it displayed. They also enjoyed hearing about the other artefacts on display. After the exhibition we completed practical activities using hieroglyphics and clay.
It was an interesting morning and good preparation for our 'Ancient Egypt' topic after half term.

Sponsored Walk🏃
Congratulations to this Year 7 pupil- he ran 24 laps and I can tell you his face was as red as his top!
On the 29th September we had our annual sponsored walk. There was a great turn out of parents and the sun was shining even for those who decided to walk in their night attire.
Dru, our classroom assistant left us on Friday 22nd September. Thank- you for all your help and the lovely poem for Year 6.
Welcome to Year 6. Your children have settled very well into the routines of Year 6 and are working hard. Our first topic is 'The Human Body' and then we shall move onto 'Ancient Egypt' after Hallowe'en. I know we are going to have a great year!
