Year 1 Sports
We had Year 1 Sports day on Monday 27th June. The boys and girls participated in sprint races, hoop races and egg and spoon races. We all had a lot of fun and many stickers were awarded as you can see from our photos......

Trip to Global Adventure
We had a fantastic school trip to Global Adventure in Ballynahinch on Thursday 16th June. Many thanks to Julie and Laura for taking such good care of us and to Alastair, our very patient bus driver for the day.

The Queen's Jubilee Celebration
To celebrate  the Queen's Jubilee, we dressed up for the day like a King, Queen or a VIP! We made special bunting which had a crown, a corgi and the number 70 on it! We found out some special facts about our Queen and what she has achieved during her reign.

Sportathon Fun!!
We had great fun at the Sportathon with games involving shopping trolleys, clothes pegs, suitcases and even teddy bears!! Thank you to Mrs Milligan for organising everything and to Mr Armstrong for the ice lollies afterwards.

Humpty Dumpty  sat on a wall!
We have been doing Easter arts and crafts and made Humpty Dumpty  using egg shells  and lots of PVA glue. Of course, we had to build walls for Humpty to sit on and we changed the rhyming words  to make up new rhymes for Humpty Dumpty......lots of phonics,   art and laughter  especially when the walls fell down!!!

Wonderful Water Stories
Year 1 pupils have been learning all about the topic of water.  We have found out what makes objects float  or sink,   how water gets into our houses and school,  how people got water in the past  and also the uses of water ....water is for fun, transport, plants and animals, cooking, drinking and lots more!
We experimented with the technique of 'wax resist' using crayons and paint to make umbrellas and boots and wrote stories about being in the bath.
A huge wall display was created outside our classroom.

Working Together in P.E.
We have been working together in P.E. during the month of March with a parachute. Lots of fun activities  as you can see from the photos!!

Ball skills in P.E.
During February we have been concentrating on improving our ball skills. We have been bouncing and catching, throwing and catching individually and also with a friend. Great fun in the hall!

Classroom displays
We have been busy with our artwork......printing patterns with potatoes, designing birthday cakes and making patterns with the candles and   also we created mascots for an internet safety competition.

Christmas Stars in Year 1!
We all had great fun dressing up and getting our faces painted to perform for our Christmas video.  The girls did a special  star dance and the boys did the floss!!! Hope you enjoyed  watching us, here are some photos of us.....

Festive Friday 2!
On our second Festive Friday, we had a craft day.  We made Christmas trees with lots and lots of glitter and decorated Christmas reindeer baubles.  We listened to Christmas songs and rhymes and entered into the spirit of Christmas.

Festive Friday 1!
On the 3rd December, we had our first Festive Friday.  Instead of having our annual Christmas Craft Fair, we plan to have 3 Festive Fridays to help with our fundraising efforts.  Mrs Milligan worked hard to set up lots of games in the hall.  Year 1 had a fun morning playing lots of games from Chinese chopsticks, football penalties, hook a duck and building towers....everyone got prize sweets for taking part.   Have a look at all our photos.
Next time, we have craft activities to do ...

Hallowe'en Hampers!
Such excitement in the Year 1 classroom   about trying to win a hamper. It must have had something to do with all the sweets and treats in each one. We made a total of 6 Hallowe'en hampers but every pupil went home with some sweets from Mrs Price. Our special winners were  Eloise, Sofia, Jacob, Jaxon, Ski and Billy.

Fun with the Number 4!
Year 1 pupils have been learning all about the number 4. Our number 4 character is called Freddie Four and he likes going on lots of adventures!  The boys and girls rolled out lots of number 4's with their dough and strengthened their hand muscles at the same time!

Sponsored Walk
The weather was lovely for our annual sponsored walk on Friday 1st October. There was plenty of chat and plenty of singing all round the Lagan walk. Pamela and Mrs Price were exhausted, but some of the boys and girls with their high energy levels could have walked all morning! Everyone should sleep well tonight!

Learning about Italy in Year 1

Friday 24th September was a special day in Dromara Primary as we celebrated the European Day of Languages with  an 'Italian Day'. The pupils in Year 1 learned some Italian words, counted in Italian numbers, coloured in Italian flags and  designed pizzas using some ICT! We really were very busy!
