Welcome to Year 1
Sports Day
Well done everyone!
Displays in Year 1
We have been very creative in Year 1 over the last few months.  We were learning all about Spring, the value of coins for money and we even made shape pizzas!  See the photos of our classroom displays.

Sports Day
Year 1's took part in several races on our class Sports Day.  We had great fun cheering to encourage each other as we completed races on the MUGA.  Year 1 took part in running, egg and spoon, hoop and hopscotch races.
Show and Tell
Every pupil in Year 1 will be doing 'Show and Tell' in the month of June.  This talking and listening activity gives children the opportunity to show a favourite toy, tell their peers about their hobby.  After a little presentation, the boys and girls get the opportunity to ask questions and the chosen 'Show and Tell' pupil will take charge of the question and answer session.  This is a very enjoyable learning experience for both pupils and the adults!
Number Day
Year 1 had a great day engaging in number activities.  We dressed up in our number tops and onesies - have a look at the fun we had!
ASSEMBLY
David Cowan from CEF has posted an assembly for you. David is a regular in our school in 'normal times', however, he has been unable to come in this year, so he wanted to send a message for all the boys and girls. MINI MASH   - HANDLING DATA

As promised, we will make one or two pictograms in Mini Mash. Log in and find the '2Count' activity. There are 3 choices but we are going to make a  favourite colour graph and an eye colour  pictogram. We would normally have had a lot of fun with this in school but I am going to give you the results to follow. It would be easier if an adult writes them down and then you won't have to keep looking back at this page.

Favourite Colour
There are 26 pupils in Year  1. The pupils asked each other about their favourite colours.
Here are the results. Can you put them on the pictogram? Save into your tray.

Blue -  5                 Gold - 2               Green - 2              Orange - 6           Pink - 7
Purple- 1            Red -  3            Yellow - 0

Which colour is the most popular?    Which colour was the least popular?
Which 2 colours were the same?

Eye Colour
There are 26 pupils in Year  1. The pupils asked each other about the colour of their eyes.
Here are the results. Can you put them on the pictogram? Save into your tray

Even if the children can write down some of the sounds in order that will be great. As we are learning more sounds each week, our knowledge will increase and ability to hear sounds will improve.

Welcome to Year 1 class page.  Here you will find out about some of the activities and learning which we do in school. Recent news will be shown first, so please scroll down to see any previous posts.
Christmas Craft
On our second Festive Friday, we had a craft day.  We made Christmas trees with lots and lots of glitter and decorated Christmas baubles - elves or Santa Claus.  We listened to Christmas songs and rhymes and entered into the spirit of Christmas.
Bear Hunt
We finally finished work on our 'Bears' topic and, after waiting for quite a few days until the rain stopped, we completed a bear hunt.  With our bear ears on, we hunted high and low for teddy bear pictures (no real teddy bears used due to Covid!) around the school grounds.  With some  help from Lydia, we managed to recover all the bears!

Festive Fridays!
On 4th December, we had our first Festive Friday.  Instead of having our annual Christmas Craft Fair, we plan to have 3 Festive Fridays to help with our fundraising efforts.  Mrs Milligan, Pamela and Donna (the elf) worked hard to set up lots of games in the hall.  Year 1 had a fun afternoon with everyone getting some sweets.  Next time, we have craft activities to do ...
Making numerals with dough
Each week in school, we are learning about a new number.  Here we are making the number 4 with dough and learning the Tentown writing rhyme 'Down, across, oar in the water!'
Hallowe'en Party Time
Everyone in Year 1 including Mrs Price and Lydia dressed up for our party day.  The costumes were fantastic and, staying in our class bubble, the Year 1 pupils had a full-filled afternoon in the hall.  Here are some happy and scary images from the party ....

Hallowe'en Hamper Winners
To raise money for school funds, every class made Hallowe'en hampers and sold raffle tickets.  The lucky winners enjoyed their prizes.  Well done!
Sponsored Walk
We had a lovely sunny morning to do our annual sponsored walk on Friday 2nd October.  There was plenty of chat and plenty of singing all round the Lagan walk.  Lydia and Mrs Price were exhausted, but some of the boys with their high energy levels could have walked all morning!
Colourful Patterns
Every week in Year 1 we have several sessions of practical numeracy.  This week we have been mastering patterns!  Great fun was had designing 2 colour patterns using pegs, beads, links and elephants.
Handprint Mats
As a little keepsake for parents we painted our hands to make special handprints.  Just look at all the lovely smiles in Year1!
