June 2021
Can't believe we have come to the end of another year. I have really enjoyed teaching this class and appreciate all the support from parents and carers during the year. Thank-you for the presents and cards on behalf of myself and my classroom assistants- they mean a lot. I would like to wish you all a lovely, relaxing summer holiday. Take care and try to do some summer homework in August to get brains back in gear for the return to Year 7! (Final year of Primary School)
Best wishes and love from Mrs Milligan xx

Friday 25th June- Sportathon
Although I was a bit worried about the weather, all went well and although cool it remained dry. Year 6 were fantastic as they moved around all the games and races. I was glad to hear a lot of comments saying it was the 'best Sportathon ever'. Great job Year 6!
Wednesday 16th June
Tae Kwondo exhibition
The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in this demonstration. Very good for fitness, concentration, stamina and self- discipline. First lesson is free and the children have been given fliers with all the information included.
Tuesday 15th June
Year 6 had a session of tribal drumming. It began with lots of concentration and rhythm games. You can see from the photos we had great fun! However, the drumming was so good, everyone was involved including me and 'I forgot to take photos! Oops!
Friday 11th June
Year 6 go for their 'chippy lunch' and visit Dromara Park. Great fun was had by all!
Year 6 Sports- Friday 4th June
I was so impressed with Year 6- the sportsmanship, participation and most of all 'fun' was amazing during our far from normal sports day.
Running races, hoop, skipping, sack, three legged, egg and spoon and relay all took place with enormous enthusiasm. What was lovely was when I looked at the children's, t-shirts at the end everyone of them had gained 1st, 2nd, 3rd or well done sticker(s). The only thing missing were ' proud parents'. Let's hope next year will be different.

Number Day 28th May
Friday 28th May brought 'Number Day' to Dromara Primary. Year 6 had a great time with 'Who Wants To Be A Mathionaire' and various maths games to help multiplication, division, fractions, percentages and decimals. After lunch we did some number PE- that was after the old faithful game of 'Buzz'.
Thanks to all who contributed to let their child take part and help the 'NSPCC' charity.

April 2021
Since returning to school after Easter Year 6 have been very busy with revision work and tests. However, on Monday 19th April we had a visit from Cormac and Carlos who give Year 6 a lesson in 'Resilience.' The children interacted very well with the guys and it was very interesting to listen to their thoughts about how they could keep their minds healthy.
The children finished their 'Flight' topic, at the end of April. We managed to get a slightly windy day and Year 6 got to fly their kites. Such good fun!

*5.Literacy-
First of all you need to finish the story 'Beth and the Nile,' on Purple Mash (chapter 7 is now up as a 'to do'). This story should give you some ideas for your own Egyptian mystery story. You have to be a character in your story- you could be a Pharaoh, a guard, a slave, a scribe, someone who works on the pyramids or a god. It is totally up to you. In the story something bad has to happen eg a robbery, a murder, a fight, use your imagination. Within the story I shall be looking for direct speech with speech marks, paragraphs, good spelling and punctuation.
Today you will start your preparation work. In your bundle for Wednesday 3rd you have lots of sheets to help with your preparation. Do not complete all of these today. Share them between today and tomorrow. You need to be ready to start writing or typing your story on Friday 5th. I will be wanting this story for marking and it would be good to see your preparation pages also. Read the prep pages carefully, they should really help with your planning and organisation of your thoughts.

Dear Parent,
Please collect your child's reading book(s) from them and all the work I have asterisked for marking. Here is a checklist to help:
If you do not have time to complete the Spelling and Table Test for Friday 29th before you pick up the new pack, don't worry. It can be added to the marking for 1st-12th February.
Now parents what I would like you to do is use the yellow folder that you got the paper pack in two weeks ago and which has your child's name on it. Place the reading books and all the work for marking (make sure your child's name is clearly labelled on each piece) into this folder and bring to school tomorrow. Leave this folder on the table in the school hall for me, where you pick up the new pack. I shall leave it to quarantine over the weekend and then begin marking on Monday. I shall stick the marked work into the relevant book belonging to your child. This shows me that your child has been engaging in the work that I have set for home. I can then mark the class roll with the correct mark for your child as per instruction by the Department of Education. I shall also feed back to your child via telephone call.
I hope this all makes sense- any queries just email.
Many, many thanks for all your help,
Heather Milligan

Continue with 'ay' word list or spend time on Lexia. Also today you should have a scaffolded text in your bundle. The title is 'My Neighbour Mr Reindeer'. If you need to record on the sheet, do that. Most of you need an adult to read the text a few times to you while you record your tally marks for the 'ay' sounding words. Remember adults, you will need to be very polite.
4.Mental Maths-
Green Group and Blue Group have table torture.
AQE Group- You have the following maths sheet in your pack. Please complete, do your working out on the sheet or scrap paper. Remember 50%= 1/2 and 25%=1/4, to find the average add up all the numbers and divide by the number of numbers there are, so in Q4 you will be dividing by 6. There will be a short video at some stage to go over this sheet- watch out for information about it.
*5. Literacy- this work on adverbs is for me to mark so please complete on a lined sheet I have provided in your pack
The adverb sheet will be in your bundle for Wednesday 20th.
6.Numeracy-
Continue with time work either 24hr clock or digital to the hour. If you are in Blue Group and have finished all the worksheets begin to practise all to the hour times with an adult. For example an adult gives you the analogue time- 10 to 7 and you have to change it to digital either orally or write the answer down ie 6:50.
7. World Around Us - Egyptian Pack
Check through the sheets you have tried to complete so far, make sure they are now fully completed- answers finished, colouring completed and any cutting and sticking completed also. We still need to look at the ruling system but that will be for next week.
8. Reading- Very impressed from most of you who are reading their own novels as well as the readers I have put into your pack. Keep up the good work!

Monday 18th January
Good morning Year 6, I hope you've all had a good weekend and are ready with your paper pack for this week's work. Here is the answer to the riddle from Friday- (Ans) your breath.
I am marking your work at the moment and will give you feed back when I call you during the week. I also hope to make some videos to help with learning. The links for these will be posted on the website or 'Purple Mash'. Those who have not yet logged onto the 'Purple Mash' Year 6 Blog, need to this week. I have included how to do this in your new pack, so no excuses.
You will notice on the website now that there will be less information, this is due to the fact that you have a paper bundle for each day and also a learning diary to follow.

Dear Parent,
Please collect your child's reading book from them and all the work I have asterisked for marking. Here is a checklist to help:
If you do not have time to complete the Spelling and Table Test for Friday 15th before you pick up the new pack, don't worry. It can be added to the marking for 18th- 29th January.
Now parents what I would like you to do is use the blue folder that you got the Collins books in and which has your child's name on it. Place the reading book and all the work for marking (make sure your child's name is clearly labelled on each piece) into this folder and bring to school tomorrow.

December
December is always a busy month in school. Year 6 have finished the 'Human Body' topic and are now learning about 'Ancient Egypt'. We are also going to celebrate Christmas through our 'Festive Friday' activities.
During the last week of term Year 6 were using grams and kilograms to estimate the weights of various objects around the classroom.
They also engaged in talking and listening activities in which 'tone of voice' was most important rather than facial expressions and body language.

Although Year 6 have been spending most of their time studying literacy and numeracy they have spent some time on the 'Human Body' topic. They have been learning about bones and the skeleton, the heart, pulse and exercise.
Friday 25th September
Year 6 have been having fun using the gym-time equipment in PE. They have learnt how to carry the equipment safely, set it up quickly, safely and imaginatively and work together as a team.
They are now able to put the equipment away in the correct order and in an acceptable time.
In the future they will be travelling in different ways over the equipment and also using it to balance on.
Remember girls can now wear shorts under their skirts on Thursdays and Fridays and use these for PE.

Welcome! Welcome! Welcome!
Hello parents and pupils. You are very welcome to the Year 6 website page. I am very pleased to say that we are in the the process of settling back into school, learning new hygiene rules and classroom rules in this far from normal time. Parents, please take time to look at the Year 6 curriculum information, at the top of this page. I hope you find it useful in order to help your child through Year 6. I do hope to complete some topic work with the children this year, starting with 'The Human Body' but I feel our focus should be mainly literacy and numeracy. Remember parents, I depend on you to be involved in the education of your child- it is a three way process- TEACHER- CHILD- PARENT.
Please remember to sign reading diaries, homework diaries and written homework. (This means I know you have checked and been involved.)
I know we can have a great year by all working together and although I may not see parents face to face I am always at the end of the phone if you have a query about your child!
Many thanks, in anticipation, of your help and don't forget to look at our web page!
Best Wishes,
Heather Milligan.
