Welcome to the  Year 5 Class Page 2021-22!

Welcome to our class page! You will find information here relating to class activities, school events and much more! The most recent information is at the top of our class page.
Sports Day
Year 5 children have showcased an extremely positive attitude towards competitive sport, showing great teamwork skills and sportsmanship! Well done Y5!
Montalto
The sun was shining and everyone was eager to set off early for our trip.
After a short journey, we arrived at our destination to discover we had the whole estate to ourselves (plus a few gardeners).
We headed into the woods, clipboards in hand, to do our scavenger hunt. Our aim was to identify plants and trees – mostly looking for native species but happy to learn about anything we came across.
As we travelled, we collected woodland debris and then used this to create some wonderful pieces of artwork, inspired by Arcimboldi.
Next on the agenda, the obligatory ‘games on the lawn’ and then we retired for lunch.
After lunch it was time for the main event, according to the pupils, and we were off to the long awaited adventure park. Wow, we have good reserves of energy!
An ice-cream on the way home rounded off a fantastic day.
Outdoor education is cool!
Materials
In our topic of Materials, we have considered how materials are made. We even had a go at making our own recycled paper!
Sportathon
We had a brilliant day taking part in a range of physical activities for Sportathon! What lovely weather and what great fun we had!
Romans
In Year 5, we have been learning about the Romans. We have written some fabulous and informative newspaper reports about the Roman invasion of Britain and letters as a Roman soldier. We have also created colourful mosaics in art. Check our our Roman shields. We learnt how Roman soldiers would train and about their battle formations.
Fire Safety
We had a visit from a local firefighter. We learnt a lot about how to stay safe at home, especially with electronics.
Daily Mile
We have been taking advantage of the lovely weather and getting in our daily mile!
Hockey Skills
Unfortunately, the weather has brought us inside multiple times but we have still managed to work on our dribbling and passing skills.
Maths Challenges
Year 5 have worked hard this term on our problem solving skills. We have completed a range of maths games to help us work on our adding and subtracting and also help us remember our times tables. Some great team work was occurring too! Check out some of our word problems that we have created in class.
Our Second Festive Friday
Year 5 have been busy selecting gifts and carefully wrapping them! We may have got through a lot of sellotape but the day was definitely a success! Check out our festive Christmas jumpers too!
Our First Festive Friday

The first Festive Friday has taken place and what a great day it was! We had lots of fun playing a range of games, with many of us winning prizes!
Christmas Dinner

December is finally here and that can only mean one thing... Christmas Dinner. This year, the Christmas Dinner was brought to our classroom, even the gravy and ice-cream was carried down to Year 5.

We were all definitely in the Christmas Spirit, as some of the Year 5 boys had helped Jennifer at lunchtime put up the Christmas trees and decorate them.

After we had finished our lunch, we all received our own cracker and an early Christmas present from Rakeya! What a great start to December!

Circuit Training

This half term, we have been taking part in circuit training. We have learnt a range of skills and techniques and have challenged ourselves to beat our own personal targets. We also took part in some relay races, working on a range of skills. The races were all so close but we had a lot of fun!

Class of the Week

What a great first week back! Year 5 have won Class of the Week, earning themselves a night off from homework! We worked exceptionally hard, demonstrated great behaviour and were great role models for the rest of the school! Well done Year 5!

Halloween Hampers

We had a spooky event take place in Year 5! Thankfully we had quite the treat rather than any tricks! Mrs Milligan came in and revealed the winners of our Halloween Hampers. Congratulations to those who won a prize!

Thank you to both Rakeya and Jennifer, who very kindly brought in treats for the whole class!

Sponsored Walk

What a wonderful day we had for our sponsored walk! Thank you to all those who raised money for the school and sponsored our Year 5 walkers!
European Day of Languages

On Friday 24th September, we celebrated European Day of Languages. Our focus was on Italy this year.

Check out the pictures we created of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. We carefully measured out each section of the tower and then used pastels to create some beautiful backdrops. Ottimo Lavoro Y5!

A special thanks or ‘Grazie’ to Jennifer, who very kindly brought in ice cream for us! What a treat!
