Class Trip to Stormont and Aunt Sandra's Candy Factory
Year 7 had a great day out starting with a visit to Stormont. We were given a tour of the building and then had the opportunity to have our own debate in the chamber, debating a potential new law 'Should school uniform be banned?' After eating our lunch on the steps of Stormont, we moved on to Aunt Sandra's Candy Factory where we met some of the workers, watched some lovely sweet being made and sampled a few treats from the shop. A great day was had by all!

Mad hair, mad clothes mad moves. Years 5, 6 and 7 had a ball at the disco and here are some photos to prove it.
Tag Rugby Festival - May 2019
We were treated to an outstanding display of running rugby at Laurelhill Community College in Lisburn as our Dromara Taggers showed a clean pair of heels to the opposition! The team were electric on the day and only lost 1 game during the day (and even that was a very close one!)
Well done to the boys and girls who took part.

EASTER HAMPERS
There was great excitement and anticipation on Friday 12th April when the draw took place for the Easter Hamper fundraiser and here are the winners of 4 of the 6 hampers, two lucky winners will find out when they return to school after Easter.
Hot Wires Technology
Pancake Tuesday.
Year 7 had lots of fun making pancakes to celebrate Shrove Tuesday. Toppings included a choice of butter, sugar or chocolate spread!
Well done to the team of Y7 s who competed in the Sportshall Athletics competition at Lisburn Leisureplex.
We have to wait and see if anyone has made it through to the finals! |
We have been working with Hot Wires electrical construction kits in technology, learning how to connect all the components of a circuit. All sorts of new words became part of our scientific vocabulary and we really enjoyed making a propeller blade fly into the air.

Technology Thursday
Thursday has now officially been renamed Technoday. Last week we built wind powered buggies and this week our challenge was to build a marble run to see which team's marble took the longest to complete the course and land in the tray at the end. Lots of brilliant ideas from ramps to sharp corners to a curtain effect.
With a time limit of one hour to plan, design and build these boards we had some brilliant slow times and many completing the challenge.

NSPCC Number Day 2019
Number day in Dromara Primary School means onesies, number t shirts, fun number games and high sugar content prizes!!
Y7 played Who Wants to be a Mathionaire in teams ranging from Fluffykins to Watermelons and after a warm up on an easy set of questions went on to tackle KS3 questions which would have challenged many high school pupils.
After a close contest the strangely named team, Out of Date Watermelons, won by a single point.
Here are the winners and the teams hard at work.

Waste Education Vehicle Visit
The Waste Education Vehicle visited the school today and Year 7 made recycling badges. The prize winners are photographed below.
Bee Safe Event
Today Year 7 attended a Bee Safe event at Maze Presbyterian Church Hall. This was a very informative event during which the pupils were given lots of useful information about keeping safe online, fire safety, farm safety, electrical safety, keeping safe at sea, accidents that can happen in the home and keeping safe on buses. Talks were given by NIFRS, RNLI, PSNI, NIE, Lisburn and Craigavon council and Translink.
Having Fun with Fractions Using Skittles
In Year 7 today we decided to look at fractions a little bit differently. We used packets of Skittles to investigate denominators and to work how many and what fraction of each colour there was in a bag of Skittles...eating them after the activity was lots of fun too!
The Festive Madness of Making Melted Snowmen!
Who knew that so much fun could be had with biscuits, icing sugar, marshmallows, strawberry laces and chocolate drops? We created these melting snowmen and were delighted with how they turned out.
Year 7 enjoying some play time on the MUGA
At Dromara PS we are very fortunate to have the use of excellent outdoor facilities. Have a look!
Christmas is coming
Take a look at our traditional Y7 advent calendar, not many windows to open now.
Santa's Sleighs in technology
Seeing as Christmas is fast approaching it is the time of year that we are set the challenge to transform a shoe box and junk materials into a wonderful sleigh. Here we are at the planning stages.
Can you spot the photo that sneaked in uninvited?
And the finished sleighs with their proud designers. Santa would be honoured to fly any of them.
Ulster Rugby meets Dromara Primary School
There was great excitement on Tuesday morning when Ulster rugby player Marcell Coetzee visited our school. He took time to meet all classes and spent a lot of time in Year 7 answering questions and signing lots of different items from Ulster rugby shirts to pencil cases!

Picasso faces in Clay
Following on from our Picasso images that we created in pastel we then took on the challenge to recreate them using clay and here are some of the amazing results.
Daily Mile Promotional Video
Do you know or are you related to any of last year's class? If so they might be interested in seeing the film that they took part in last May to promote the mile walk. We had a great time learning about filming techniques and luckily the sun shone. Please let them know they can find the film at https://bit.ly/2NPKvYv
World Around Us in Year 7
Our World Around Us topic for this term is TITANIC. The pupils are thoroughly enjoying all aspects of the topic. We started by looking at the Titanic's links with Belfast and then moved on to its construction. We have looked at a timeline of events from when the Titanic left Southampton to when it unfortunately hit that fateful iceberg. We have also looked at some of the facilities that were available on board Titanic. We are currently learning about some of the more famous passengers who were travelling on board.
Hallowe'en Hamper Fund Raiser
What a lot of sugar is all we can say. Thank you to all Y7 parents for sending in huge amounts of goodies for our hampers, we made up a lucky 13 bags so more children could have a chance to win. Here are those happy Hallowe'en people.
Two lucky winners were absent for the draw but don't worry your hampers are safe.
September 2018
Welcome to our Y7 class of 2018-2019. We have had a great start to the year with lots of hard work in many subjects but also lots of fun along the way. Swimming lessons have started, the mile walk has been completed most days and many pieces of excellent art work have been created.
