Smoothie making
Something cool for a hot day, what about making your own super fruit smoothie? So that's what we did. Here are some photos of the preparation and the end results.
Easter celebrations 2018
With Easter coming early y7 had to fit a lot into the last few weeks of March.
As you can see they found out plenty about the patron saint of Ireland and thanks to Leah had a catchy title for their work. There was the annual Easter egg designing competition and here are our winners along with their individual designs. There was also extreme excitement about the Easter hamper draw to raise funds for school and Y7 certainly contributed a lot raising nearly £100 in their bid to win a hamper. As you can see from the photos there were plots of expectant faces and then our lucky winners. |
World Book Day
|
We celebrated world book day a little late due to yet another heavy fall of snow, hopefully everyone enjoyed a good read at home. However Year 7 were able to catch up with Year 3 and enjoyed a great story reading session. Both Y3 children and their Y7 buddies got so much out of this shared reading experience.
Celebrating Chinese New Year
We were treated to some activities and treats when Shay brought in chopsticks to challenge us, lantern making and sweets. We also found out what our birth sign animal was.
Sports Hall Athletics
Our team of year 7 girls and boys competed against other Lisburn area schools at the Lagan Valley Leisureplex. They competed in sprints, relays, speed bounces and obstacle courses.
Ballynahinch High School Taster Day
With the time fast approaching for decisions to be made about which school to choose for September y7 have had visits from various high schools but on 26th January they got to experience life in a high school.
We were invited to spend the day at Ballynahinch High where we had a series of really interesting lessons including: art, technology, PE, Science and Home Economics. We also were treated to break and lunch and as you can see from the photos we had a great time.

Christmas Cup Cakes
No swimming this Friday so what better way to spend the day than by baking cup cakes, it's science and home economics rolled into one. We learnt to mix all the ingredients, break eggs successfully and divide the mixture into the baking paper bun cases.
Next was allowing them to cool before icing; we went for our mile walk which was great after days of being inside due to the weather.
THEN came the icing and decoration, we are very creative with icing and sugar decorations. Hope no dentist sees the amount of sugar we used.
Here are the results. Very professional.

Christmas Technology
Sleighs completed!
As promised here are pictures of the finished sleighs. y7 had great fun designing, making and modifying their boxes turning them into inventive sleighs. All the classes from Y1 to 6 and pre school came to view and voted for their favourite.
With AQE and GL tests behind us it was time to start technology. What better challenge to start with than turning a boring cardboard box into a state of the art sleigh for Santa.
Here are Y7 working with lots of different materials from school and home to create mini masterpieces.
The finished pieces will be posted later.

Blackwater Taster day
As it is coming to the time of year when Y7 will be choosing their school for next year it was great to be invited to Blackwater Integrated College in Downpatrick to experience a high school timetable. Our class had fun in Art, Science, English, Maths and Spanish.
As you can see from these photos it was a memorable experience.

Dromara and St Michael's hedge planting with LCCC
Some Y7s joined together with Y6 and 7 pupils from St Michael's Primary School,Finnis to help plant a replacement hedge along the walkway to screen off the water treatment works. With expert guidance from staff from LCCC they planted over a hundred plants and welcomed two local councillors to watch. As you can see they had great fun, if somewhat muddy fun, planting a variety of hedge whips which they can watch grow over the next few years.
Hallowe'en hampers
The PTA organised a special event for Hallowe'en where children contributed some treats which were divided among a number of bags. The school raised £281.50 which will be used to buy much needed equipment. Here are the happy Y7 winners.
Get Active Week
Year 7 have been following a healthy activity programme linked to their PE lessons trying to build core strengths and stamina. They have followed up lessons with a weekly homework which has been a great success for them and sometimes family members.
They thoroughly enjoyed the healthy food and activity week and have been writing magazine articles detailing the activities and promoting these.

As part of our topic studying natural disasters Y7 looked at how tribes described volcanic eruptions thousands of years ago. They wrote their own legends and used mixed media art to create a dramatic backdrop to their writing.

Year 7 have been looking at the works of Pablo Picasso and have copied his style of portraits using oil pastels. They certainly are a very talented class of artists.
Next stage is to recreate their ideas using clay.
Watch this space for updates on ceramic work.

Ballynahinch Primary Sports Event
September 2017
Year 7 enjoyed a fun filled morning of sporting activities at The High School Ballynahinch.
The rain stayed away for the event which was organised for Y6 and 7 pupils, to get a taste of life at a high school. There were 12 different sports to compete in and our three teams had a great time learning new skills and meeting pupils from the high school.
A big thank you to all involved in the organisation of this activity, we all had a brilliant time.
