We have begun our People From the Past Topic. We introduced the topic by finding out what the children already knew about famous people who made an impact when they were alive. Pupils shared their knowledge of Elvis Presley, Princess Diana, George Best, Roald Dahl and W. K. Kellogg. The children also had great ideas of people they'd be interested to learn about! One of our first challenges was to research a person form the past in groups and write a profile.

Thank you to Kyla and Kieran who came to tell us all about how bread is made. It was a very informative and interactive morning enjoyed by everyone.
On Thursday 8th March we visited Lisburn Police Station. We travelled by bus to Lisburn and were given a very informative tour of the Station. Pupils had opportunities to get into a Police vehicle, learn about the job of a Police Officer, visit the interview room, visit the CCTV room and ask any questions they had.
To celebrate World Book Day, the Year 7 pupils came down to Year 3 to read to us. We really enjoyed listening to them reading. Thank you Year 7!

Year 3 pupils are enjoying our 'Food, Glorious Food' topic so far. We began our topic by looking at why we eat food. We have been learning about the importance of a balanced diet through our World Around Us lessons and Activity Based Learning. We plan to complete two food investigations. The first investigation focuses on the changes we can observe when foods are left uncovered. Investigation 2 focuses on changes in foods stored in different ways e.g. plastic storage box, fridge, tinfoil, cling film.
Our Activity Based Learning activities during the first session gave us opportunities to make food with play dough, use money stampers, create people with Popoids, imaginative play in our restaurant, use Bee-Bots during ICT and design placemats for the restaurant.

Ralph the Reindeer.
During the second part of the term we had great fun practising for our Christmas Concert. It was great to work with Year 2 to perform the play 'Ralph the Reindeer'.
Rudolph discovered he had a cold on the run up to Christmas. This left Santa with nobody to pull his sleigh until Ralph the Reindeer turned up! Ralph ensured that preparations for Christmas Eve continued. But when the sleigh was laden with presents Ralph discovered that he couldn't fly! Oh no!!!!
We hope family and friends enjoyed watching to see the happy ending! Photos to follow ....

Some Practical Numeracy photographs of our counter activities which help us to understand addition and subtraction. Pupils have to show and hide counters, add some counters and then ask their partner how many they now have under their hand. Great for our mental maths strategies!

We are beginning our first topic 'Whatever the Weather'. We're planning to write weather diaries, weather forecasts and poems linked to our topic.
The children have begun their Activity Base Learning activities linked to our topic. During our first set of sessions the children were building strong structures with Lego, drawing weather symbols using a piece of software called 'MS Paint', using dominoes, completing a weather chart, making and decorating symbols and building sand castle as a group. During the second set of sessions the children built vehicles using Screwdriver Toys, used a piece of software called 'Through My Window' to learn about the seasons of the year, played an addition game, wrote weather reports, drew stormy day pictures and investigated waterproof materials in the water tray. Here are some photographs from our first two sets of activities ....
