Our Trip to the Butterfly House!
The first of our school trips saw us travelling to the Butterfly House in Seaforde. We had been learning a lot of in information about the Butterfly Life Cycle, so travelled armed with curiosity and many fantastic questions. On the day we saw many colourful butterflies, some very noisy peacocks and a fantastic maze. We think the butterflies were happy to see us too!
Easter Egg Hunt!
We celebrated the end of term in style, on the Annual Year Two Easter Egg Hunt! Many Chocolate and sweet treats were found and shared out! Congratulation to our Easter Hamper winners and thank you to everyone who brought in items for them and joined the excitement of buying tickets!
Hurray for Wold Book Day!
Everyone had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Today. We visited the Book Fair, dressed up as our favourite characters and had the pleasure of a visit from the Year Five Pupils who came to read to us. A brilliant day - thanks to Mrs Price for organising!
Progress through Play
We continue to develop our Numeracy skills through play this term, playing games, completing investigations, weighing, measuring and using mathematical language. We like to incorporate ICT where possible, and it is evident that the pupils are becoming more and more independent. Keep up the great work everyone!
StoryBook STEM
'STEM' stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics: four elements of the curriculum which present excellent opportunities to develop Thinking and Motor skills for our pupils. The pupils have been working very well to complete activities based on favourite stories such as 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff' and 'The Three Little Pigs'. The tasks encourage discussion, team work, evaluation and presentation - and as always, are lots of fun! Check out our Three Goats Bridges and houses for the Little Pigs!
Let's Investigate!
Science is by far one of our favourite things in school, and for the last three Fridays we have been enjoying a variety of investigation activities with our teaching student, Mr Rodgers. We've been investigating our senses of hearing and tasting, and had a fantastically messy afternoon of 'Bubble Science'! Doesn't everyone look smart in their special Lab coats?
NSPCC Number Day!
After a few weeks of looking forwards to the big day- NUMBER DAY 2019 finally arrived.
A whole day of number fun and games- and getting to dress in an amazing array or ONEsies and sports shirts!
We raised money for the NSPCC while learning and having a great time together. Fantastic effort, everyone!

Aladdin! An afternoon of Pantomime fun!
The whole school enjoyed a fabulous afternoon of pantomime fun when we got together to watch a production of Aladdin. This all singing, all dancing production had laughs, anticipation- and two teachers having the time of their lives getting to take part! What a treat!
Caring, Daring, and Sharing!
Our January/February Topic is 'People Who Help Us' so we have been learning a lot about people who can help us at home, at school and in the community. There are so many great discussion and learning opportunities within this topic: but the most popular (as always!) has been dressing up!
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
In Dromara PS we like to be aware of the environment and look after it as well as we can. We recently enjoyed a visit which enabled the pupils to learn more about how they can reduce, reuse and recycle to help the environment.l We loved climbing on the bus, taking part in a quiz, and making our own plant pots to grow cress in!
A Winter Adventure!
Its been a strangely mild winter in Dromara - we normally have many frosty mornings and snowy day!
We've been writing some snowy stories, so when there was a little snow we had to take the opportunity to explore what the real thing was like in our very own winter adventure. We wrote and drew in the snow, touched and smelled it, and of course, made a few snowballs. A super learning experience - with thanks to Laura for her careful supervision!

A very crafty Christmas!
To get in a festive mood, Year Two Pupils enjoyed making Christmas cards, Craft, and even some sweet treats to eat! The pupils were able to develop their fine motor and handwriting skills, sequencing and retelling skills, and Talking and Listening Skills: all while having lots of fun!
Parents, siblings and friends may have heard the Year Two pupils talk about their 'Christmas House'. In the 'Christmas House' pupils were able to sort Christmas Decorations, set up a shop using real money to pay for toys and decorations, read Christmas Books, listen to Christmas stories and songs on CD, and dress up to act out the Christmas story. Lots of lovely Christmas memories made together!
Celebrating Reading!
In Year Two we love to read! We read as a class, in groups, independently and are always looking for ways to celebrate our newly found skills! Each month we reward effort in home reading with special reading prizes, groups can earn certificates for completing a whole level of reading books, and when we see some really special achievement and progress Mr Armstrong likes to visit to celebrate with us.
Super effort every one! Keep reading!

Fundamental Movement and Football Skills with Coach Marty!
We've been enjoying our weekly Fundamental Movement and Football Skills lessons with IFA Coach, Marty.
Each week we 'tackle' a new topic such as Space or Balance- its always a challenge, and always a lot of fun!

Toasty Tuesdays!
We want to say a big THANK YOU to the PTA volunteers who have been coming in to school to make delicious toast for us to enjoy on Toasty Tuesdays! You can see the pupils really love it!
Toasty Tuesdays continue throughout November, with pupils able to choose their Toast and toppings for just 20p per slice!

Practical Numeracy: Learning Through Play
A lot of our learning in Year Two is achieved through fun, practical experiences which are age appropriate and designed to make the pupils think about and discuss their Numeracy work, building vocabularly and understanding. You can see how the pupils work together to learn Numeracy 'Topic' Concepts of Money, Time, Shape, and Measure. Great work, everyone!
Sponsored Walk: Thank you everyone!
September 28th was a really special day in our school calendar: our annual Sponsored Walk! The weather was very kind to us as we set off on our mammoth six laps of the community walkway! Brilliant behaviour shown by all of the Year Twos, who looked after each other and who were very polite to the other classes and members of the public we met on the way! We really enjoyed our juice and biscuits and are sure to remember this fun day for a very long time!
Coffee the Moth!
A very special visitor for the Year Two Classroom! Ross brought in a sleepy caterpillar for us to look at- little did we know, a week later it would turn into a beautiful moth which we named Coffee! Coffee had a very fun day in our classroom - the Year Twos looked after him very carefully, allowing him to sit quietly in his little tub on their desks while they worked. At lunch time we agreed that it was time for Coffee to be set free. With lots of encouragement from the pupils, Coffee flew off in the September Sunshine. Thank you, Ross!
Sounds and Spellings!
Moving from knowing single phonic sounds to being able to read and write words is a challenge for every pupil: in Foundation Stage we love to find as many practical, memorable and enjoyable ways as possible to develop skills and confidence in this area. We play games, build words, problem solve, hunt for phonics patterns, and learn more every day. Look at those smiles from our happy pupils!
Meet the Year Twos: Our beautiful wall display!
Anyone who has visited our classroom has commented on our colourful wall display, featuring photos, artwork, and writing from every pupil in Year Two. It shows what a great team we are and reflects the individual skills of each pupil: a really eye-catching piece of work to be proud of!
Maths Challenge: Nifty Numerals!
In Year Two pupils are encouraged to develop a more formal approach to letter and number formation. In our first ‘Nifty Numerals Challenge’, the pupils have been working hard to show more consistent, correct formation of numbers 0-9. On completion of this tricky task, the pupils are invited to visit Mrs Milligan (our Numeracy Co-Ordinator) or Mr Armstrong to receive a special certificate. Everyone is working very hard, keep up the great work!
September: Settled in and ready to work and play!
The month of September has really flown! All of the fantastic Year Two pupils have settled into school and have shown a very positive approach to all aspects of their work and play! Firm favourites so far are definitely Music, P.E and Playtime; though the highlight of each day always seem to be the Daily Mile- plenty of chat, exercise, fun and friendship. I am really looking forward to helping the pupils to reach their full potential this year!
Hello to all of the Year Two pupils (and their grown ups too!)
I hope everyone has had a fantastic Summer and look forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday morning!
Let's have a great year of work and play!
