The End of Year Two Already!
June has disappeared in a flash of Sports days, trips, art, outdoor play and of course, continuing to learn and grow. We have been looking back at a fantastic year of work and play and looking forwards to moving on to Year Three, meeting new teacher Mrs Irvine and finding out what next year will be like.
All of the Year Twos have worked hard, had lots of fun and made many, many memories!
I am sad to say goodbye to them, but wish them all very well! Have a wonderful Summer everyone!

Our Trip to Exploris!
On Thursday 22nd July, we had our class trip to Exploris Aquarium in Portaferry.
Leaving on the bus at 9:15, there was a lot of chat about what we might see and who would sit next to who on the boat, but most importantly, what snacks everyone had brought. Everyone was excited to board the boat at Strangford, and loved travelling across the water to Portaferry. At the Aquarium we were fortunate to be able to participate in a touch tank demonstration, see many different undersea creatures, and even spotted some Otters peeking out from their afternoon nap. We had a wonderful picnic, and as the weather was kind even had time to visit the park before getting the ferry and boat back to Dromara. We encountered some heavy traffic on the way back, resulting in a late arrival to school, but with most of the Year Two pupils snoozing by this time, no one minded too much (sorry Mums and Dads!) A great and educational day out!

Sports Day!
After a few days of weather uncertainty, we were thrilled that our Sports Day got the go ahead! All of the pupils loved getting the bus to the pitch, meeting up with pupils from our local schools and running in all sorts of races to compete to win points for their teams! Year Two have been practicing hard and this shone through on the day!
A very fun day for everyone!

The Amazing Journey!
We had a fabulous morning visiting 'The Amazing Journey', in which we were transported back to Bible times through stories, dressing up and sampling some delicious food. Everyone in Year Two was well mannered, asking and answering questions and showing great enthusiasm. Well done!
Fairy Magic with Eco Club!
Eco Club have been very busy making upcycled Fairy Houses over the last few weeks. As a special treat the Year Two pupils went on a special 'Fairy Walk' to visit them. This was a real treat- we loved looking at the tiny houses and fantastic detail!
Thank you very much,Eco Club!

Our Trip to Lisburn Museum!
On Thursday 11th May, the Year Two pupils set off for a day at Lisburn Musuem! Armed with lunchboxes, coats and excited smiles, the bus trip to Lisburn passed quickly and in no time we were meeting our guide (Emma) and enjoying a quick snack together before commencing our informative and interesting tour of the Linen exhibition.
We learned how natural dyes have been used to colour materials and all about the processes involved in turning the 'wee blue blossom' into beautiful fabric.
We were privileged to see real life spinners and weavers at their work and Junior got to have a go on the Spinning Wheel!
Following our tour we were treated to a craft workshop with Emma and Valerie, in which the pupils made instruments from recycled materials. This was a lot of very messy fun and the results were just fantastic!
To finish our trip we enjoyed a sunny picnic in Castle Gardens and played some games and races before heading back to the bus for a much quieter, sleepier return trip to school.
All in all, a great day out!

Lots of Literacy learning!
In Year Two we always try to find the most creative, practical and memorable ways to learn, and in the lead up to our tests, our revision period was no different! The sunny weather afforded us many opportunities to get outside in to the beautiful weather for some fresh air and outdoor learning. Using the playground chalks and our phonic sounds vests we were able to revise our learning and skills in a really enjoyable way!
Happy Easter!
The weeks leading up the Easter break have been so busy! We have been working hard on spellings, handwriting, Numeracy and Topic Work and getting plenty of fresh air on our daily mile. Of course, we have also been keeping up with the serious business of play, art and craft and had a super time making our 'Easter Gardens' to take home to the lucky Mums and Dads. One of our highlights was definitely the 'Easter Egg' hunt in which everyone found lots of treats and all the excitement of the Easter raffle. Have a lovely few weeks off everyone!
Learning about Life Cycles
In the World Around Us, we have been learning about butterfly and frog life cycles. We have completed super writing activities, cut and stick activities, and even had the opportunity to tell the other pupils in the class the sequence of a Butterfly life cycle- lots of confident talking and listening. Well done!
Toasty Science!
One of our favourite things to do in Year Two is Science!
Making predictions, using general knowledge, testing, observing, and finding out lots of new things - our Science activities have it all!
Our most recent activity was TOAST SCIENCE- finding out what would happen to bread when it was toasted for one, two, four or seven minutes. We discovered that the colour, texture...and definitely the smell changed - we even thought the fire alarm might go off at one point. A lot of great fun and learning - and the Year Two pupils took these photos all by themselves!

World Book Day!
On Wednesday 8th March the whole school celebrated World Book Day.
The pupils have been very excited about the arrival of the 'Book Fair' and had been planning their 'World Book Day' costumes for several weeks. Such an array of colourful and creative costumes on the day! From Dragons to princesses to superheros (and villains).
Everyone enjoyed the special world book day assembly and parade and the book-related activities which took place in class throughout the day, especially when the Year Fours came to read us. A very fun day!

Practical Numeracy!
When the Year Two pupils talk about their 'favourite things' to do in school, Practical Numeracy always features as a top priority! Through fun activities the pupils can explore important concepts, ask questions, develop maths vocabulary and develop their understanding. There is always a lot of learning amidst fun and Numeracy chat!
The Owl Babies
We introduced the story 'The Owl Babies' to the Year Two pupils this week and it was an instant hit- great responses from the pupils as they responded to the book through drama, writing and reading activities.
Lots of fun and learning by everyone!

Year Two Alien Invasion!
This week some friendly aliens came to visit Year Two! We had a lot of fun playing with the aliens, writing stories and making fantastic 'Alien Spaceship' crafts! Here are the Year Two pupils relaxing with their favourite aliens!
Back to work (and play!)
It has been fantastic to hear about all the adventures, days out, Hallowe'en parties and fun that the Year Two pupils had over the Hallowe'en break! We are back to the important business of work and play and everyone has been listening carefully to be to participate in our daily challenges and learning. Remember to keep reading and revising sounds and spellings at home too :)
Celebrating Success!
All of the Year Two pupils have individual strengths and skills and as we encourage them to grow both academically and socially its great to celebrate their achievements. We do this in our 'morning meetings', Friday Prize Time, by awarding 'Superstars' and 'Kindness awards' and by spot prizes such as stickers and all sorts of certificates! Well Done Year Two -you are doing brilliantly and we are so proud of you!
Spooky things afoot in Year Two!
As Hallowe'en approached, the Year Two pupils got into a spooky mood by making their own crafty, super-scary spider hats with wiggling legs. These hats were a real hit, being worn in class, playing outside and even on our Daily Mile Walk!
A Squash and a Squeeze!
This week the Year Two pupils listened to the Julia Donaldson story, 'A Squash and a Squeeze'. They put their imaginations and design skills to work to create their own Lego homes for the animals from the story. Lots of great team work and thinking as the pupils retold the story- well done!
This week's Superstars!
Our superstars this week (by unanimous agreement!) are Jack and Kade. Jack has been very helpful in the class this week and Kade has shown his kind nature to both the pupils and adults in our class. Well done!
Time flies when you are having fun...and working hard!
It is hard to believe that it is the end of September already- this month in Year Two has really flown.
Everyone has been getting used to our classroom rules and routines and there have been many examples of true Year Two work, play and behaviour - very well done!
We have been working hard to revise our 'Phonic Sounds' and have been using these to build words. This week, we created a beautiful class scrapbook of pictures and writing, showing our very best effort. We've also been using the Numicon to count, make sets and explore numbers- lots of great understanding on display!

This week it has been a pleasure to celebrate reading success and recognise all the fantastic effort in home reading- remember that even ten minutes of reading a day can boost confidence and make a huge difference to progress!
Finally, our Superstars this week are Cormac and Kaleb. Both boys consistently show their best effort in work and play and this week made us feel very proud. Well done, boys!
Count on us!
In Year Two, Maths really is fun, and our regular 'Practical Numeracy' sessions are a fantastic way to learn and reinforce Number and Numeracy Topic Concepts. This week we have been learning about Shapes, O'clock times, counting and estimating, sorting coins and using the Foundation Stage computer software. Diane and Claire are always on hand to offer support and the Year Two pupils have been tackling all of the new challenges with enthusiasm!
Our Superstars this week were Rebecca and Scott. Rebecca is always keen to help out with classroom jobs and Scott has shown his very best effort in his work and play. Well done!
Work, Play and Superstars!
This week in school we have been doing lots of Mental Maths and Counting- at home you can practice counting backwards and forwards within 20 to build confidence too. We have been doing lots of reading and writing activities and everyone is trying their very best! In playtime we have been creating a 'zoo' at the small world play, searching for Numicon in the sand, and carrying out Science Investigations with the water wheels!
There was a great deal of enthusiasm this week as the Year Two Pupils started Gymnastics and Evo Soccer - well done to all of the pupils for trying something new!
A big congratulations to this week's Superstars, Junior and Kayla. Their sunny attitudes have really lit up our classroom this week!

A fantastic first week of work and play!
Its been a busy first week in the Year Two classroom, with everyone settling down to class routines, work and play.
We've been completing lots of practical activities to reinforce numbers to 10 (and beyond) and revising the initial phonic sounds. In P.E we have been completing lots of hopping and jumping activities- hopefully these can be practised at home before the weather turns too cold! Here are some pictures of what we have been up to so far!

We've been hearing all about our Summer holiday experiences, writing our own stories, counting and having lots of fun in P.E already!
We have also been learning the importance of keeping our 'Rules for a Happy Classroom!'and that there are great rewards for doing so.
- We will share (but we always ask first)
- We will keep our hands and feet to ourselves
- We will listen carefully
- We will always try our best
