Letter from Chief Medical Officer and Parent/Carer Information
|
|
Please see above, the letter from Dr Michael McBride, Chief Medical Officer and information for parents and carers.
We have had many queries regarding whether or not children who are sick should come to school. This guidance is by no means exhaustive, but hopefully it will give parents some help with decision-making.
Our information on sickness is set out in the Start of Year Booklet (Click Here to access).
If a child has a cold/cough/sneezing:
You know your own child best and you will know if they have a cough which is perhaps the norm for the time of year or weather. However, I would suggest that you err on the side of caution if a child is under the weather and keep them off for at least 24 hours. Provided there is no development of new symptoms or worsening of current symptoms, then they should be able to return to school. This is provided that they are indeed well enough to come to school and do their work. There have been many children with colds and sniffles at the start of the year – this is not unusual.
Sending work home
The school’s policy on sending work home for pupils who are ill remains unchanged. We will not send work home for pupils who are unwell – they should be recuperating. We will only send home work for a pupil who is self-isolating and is well.
Parents with concerns over COVID-19
We have been advised by the Department of Education that if you are concerned about the risk of your child catching COVID-19, this is not a valid reason for keeping your child off school. If you are keeping your child off (with COVID-19 as a reason for absence) then you must provide documentary evidence as to why they need to be off school. If evidence is not forthcoming, then children will receive an ‘Unauthorised Absence’ mark against their name.

6th August 2020
Dear parent,
I am sure that many of you will be beginning to wonder about school reopening for 20/21. We are awaiting further guidance from the Department of Education and wish to give up-to-date and accurate information rather than make decisions which need to be changed.
At present, Year 7 pupils will begin on Monday 24th and other classes will begin on Wednesday 26th August. It is unlikely that transport will be available until September, but again we are waiting on further guidance. School meals will not commence until 1st September. Please send a packed lunch with your child w/c 24th August.
We have arranged for 'Signature Schools' to come into school on Monday 17th August (please note earlier date) to enable parents to purchase uniform if necessary.
Further information will be published on the website towards end of w/c Monday 10th August.
Thank you for your patience during what is an everchanging situation.

The Education Authority has taken the decision to issue Year 1 placement letters. Further details on the home page of our website.
We hope you have all had a peaceful and healthy Easter break.
Thank you for collecting the new pupil packs today for pupils in Years 1 - 6. Remember to check the class pages on the website for information from teachers. It is important for your child's learning to continue at home. If pupils do not engage with the activities then there is a strong likelihood of them falling behind. The work you do now will help your child to adjust upon return to school. We know that every family is different and everyone is doing the best that they can!
We have also received an email from The Down Recorder who are looking for photos of children doing their work at home. "The more fun the better! If you want to participate, please email [email protected] and could you ensure the size isn't larger than 6-7MB.
Also, names with ages and where they live and what school they attend for the caption please." This is entirely parental choice. Photographs will not be sent from school.

27.3.20 - Free School Meals Information
The Department of Education (DE) and Department of Communities (DfC) have announced that families eligible for free school meals will receive payments direct to their back accounts. The payments will start to be made next week on a fortnightly basis and will continue over the Easter holidays. Families do not need to apply.
EA will be texting a small percentage of families for whom they don’t hold bank details to direct them to a form on their website. Here, parents will be asked to provide their bank details so payments can be made.
Please note that these arrangements are not being processed through school. If your child receives free school meals and you have not received payment or been contacted by EA within the next 3 weeks, please contact EA directly.
